Zelensky Wants Financial Support, Not Words of Support
The Hill reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington garnered vocal support but failed to break a congressional deadlock on billions in aid. Despite President Biden's approval of $200 million in military assistance, the $61 billion request faces Republican resistance tied to U.S. border policy changes. Zelensky remains optimistic but emphasized the need for concrete actions.
From The Hill:
While Zelensky said he felt support in words from his meetings in Washington, he underscored that he is searching for concrete actions.
“I got the signal — they were more than positive, but we know that we have to separate words and, in particular, results,” he said in a press conference alongside Biden. “Therefore, we will count on particular results.”
Yep, must be frustrating to only get lip service from DC politicians and not get results. Please tell Americans more!
House Speaker Mike Johnson also met with Zelensky. The Speaker said, “I have also made very clear since day one that our first condition on any national security supplemental spending package is about our own national security first.”
Likewise, Senator Joni Ernst said, “The issue is not Ukraine, and it’s not President Zelensky. It’s our own national security at our southern border.”
The Hill quoted other lawmakers who asserted the visit wasn't in vain, as Zelensky promoted Ukraine's achievements in the ongoing conflict with Russia and outlines plans for air defense and disrupting Russian logistics.
