Harris and Trump

Who Has the Advantage Tonight?

Politico reported Vice President Kamala Harris’s team is concerned that the finalized debate rules, including muted microphones during opponents’ speaking time, will limit her ability to challenge Donald Trump effectively in their upcoming debate. Her advisers had hoped to leverage her alleged prosecutorial style to confront Trump, but now they are adjusting their strategy. The rules, negotiated by President Biden’s team earlier, frustrate Harris’s camp, which believes that they constrain her strengths as a debater. Some Democrats view this frustration as strategic posturing.

Likewise, Republicans have thoughts on Trump. His former vice president, Mike Pence, had some solid advice, telling RealClearPolitics, “My advice to my old running mate is that he should challenge her to defend her record. Answer the question as quickly as you can, but then I think he should attack.”

He also had some thoughts on what it was like debate Harris back in 2020. He said, “We went into that debate with the expectation that she would be formidable, that she would be poised, and that she would make her case. I think we were right about the first two things, and not really the third in this sense: She either can’t, or won’t, defend her record.”
