Trump to Address Title 42 Changes on Day One

President-elect Trump’s incoming press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced potential Day One executive actions, including addressing Title 42, during an interview on Fox News. Title 42, a Trump-era policy to deport asylum seekers during the COVID-19 pandemic for public health concerns, ended in May 2023 but may be revisited. The Hill reported Leavitt mentioned other priorities, such as securing the southern border, fast-tracking energy permits, and combating transgender policies.

Leavitt also reiterated Trump’s plan for a large-scale deportation of undocumented migrants, emphasizing collaboration between federal and local law enforcement. She said, “President Trump is also going to launch the largest mass deportation of illegal criminals in American history. He can do that immediately by empowering federal and local law enforcement to work together to identify, to detain, and to deport these illegal criminals that we know are roaming freely in our country.”
