The Real House Reps of DC
The drama continued yesterday as House Republicans nominated House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) for Speaker in a secret ballot during a closed-door election. Wine glasses were thrown (I assume) and Emmer dropped out. Former President Trump shared his displeasure, along with criticism from the House Freedom Caucus.
On Truth Social, former President Trump wrote, “I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them.”
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) said, “I think they're gonna have to bring alcohol in there to solve this. There's some angry drunks that can fight it out. There some friendly drunks like me … but I don't see this happening without alcohol.”
Finally, late last night, House Republicans nominated GOP Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson (R-LA). Fox News reported that “House GOP lawmakers insisted that their conference is finally on the same page and ready to unite under Johnson’s leadership — teeing up a House-wide vote Wednesday just after noon.”
The Hill reported:
Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.), the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, was optimistic leaving Tuesday night’s internal Speaker election, telling reporters “I think we’re gonna have a Speaker” after the conference nominated Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) for the top spot.
“If you’re going to change the status quote here, you’re gonna have to shatter the current power establishment, which is what you’re seeing right now,” Perry said. “It’s been a long journey that started in January, and some hiccups along the way, none of us take any of this personally, we’re not mad at anybody or anything like that.”
“This town doesn’t work for the American people and hasn’t for a long time. We’re on this journey right now to change that, and this is the next step in that journey,” he added.
I can’t wait to see what happens on the next episode 🍷
