Survey: Immigration is Americans’ Top Concern
In a recent Gallup survey, 28% of Americans identified immigration as their primary concern, up from January's 21%. Government ranked as the highest problem for 20% of participants. Economy and inflation were close behind at 12% and 11%, respectively. Other issues like poverty, unification, and race relations scored in single digits. Immigration's February rating just surpassed its 2019 peak.
The Hill reported:
Divisions about immigration are observed among voter party lines as well, with 57 percent of Republicans and just 10 percent of Democrats naming the issue as the most important, Gallup found.
In a separate question, the survey found a record-high — 55 percent — of U.S. adults believe illegal immigration is a critical U.S. interest. That number is 8 points up from last year and 5 points higher than the previous record of 50 percent from 2004.
Despite President Biden’s photo op at the U.S.-Mexico border this week, it will be interesting to see how the above squares with the issues Democrats routinely talk about given their gaslighting on issues like illegal immigration (“Georgia man commits murder”), the economy (“It’s booming!”) and inflation (“Food prices down, thanks Biden!”). Additionally, will Republicans have the discipline to talk about the issues that are clearly more important to Americans (and where they have an advantage over Democrats) rather than be distracted by Democrats’ talking points on issues of lesser importance to Americans?
