Native-Born Americans Account for All Job Gains Under Trump
Breitbart reported that since President Trump took office in January, native-born Americans have accounted for 100% of job gains. According to the Labor Department, employment for native-born workers rose by over 2 million, while foreign-born employment dropped by more than 500,000—largely due to strict immigration enforcement. This marks a shift from the Biden era, when native-born workers made up just 52% of job gains in 2024.
Trump officials touted this as a return to an “American Workers First” policy. Breitbart noted:
This week, for instance, the Labor Department announced the establishment of an office to streamline the process whereby United States employers import foreign visa workers for American jobs.
A senior administration official told Axios that the new process “is not amnesty” or even “amnesty lite,” a pointed remark meant to stem concerns from grassroots Trump supporters who were concerned over recent discussions of amnesty for illegal farm and hotel workers.
What I’m Reading This Week
This weekend it was one year since the assassination attempt on President Trump. One reporter — Salena Zito — had a front-row view at the event and the MAGA movement. From the description of Butler: The Untold Story of the Near Assassination of Donald Trump and the Fight for America's Heartland:
That day in Butler, had the wind gusted less, had Trump’s head turned in a slightly different direction, or had the adrenaline-fueled heart of the shooter beat slower, America would have been plunged into chaos, possibly even civil war. As a local reporter with deep ties to the area, Salena Zito had been invited by the president to interview him at the Butler Farm Show Grounds. She was standing only four feet away from the presidential podium when the bullets started to fly. A campaign staffer tackled her to the ground.
Throughout it all, Salena never stopped reporting. She spoke by phone to Trump several times in the immediate aftermath and was granted access to community members, rally participants, family members and local law enforcement officials. “I rarely look away from the crowd,” Trump told her in one of several of those conversations. “Had I not done that in that moment, well, we would not be talking today, would we?”
