Mayorkas Gets Properly Grilled By Cruz
During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on border security, Senator Ted Cruz accused Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of following “political orders” that “let children be raped.” Cruz peppered Mayorkas with questions on the number of criminals that have been released into America since President Biden took office. Mayorkas refused to answer Cruz's questions with a simple "yes" or "no."
In one exchange, Mayorkas showed his ignorance on the issue of cartels and border security. From the New York Post:
Near the end of Cruz’s 11-minute grilling, the senator grew even more heated, calling Mayorkas “incompetent” for not recognizing the significance of an image of color-coded wristbands that he put up on an easel.
“You don’t know what they are? Mr. Secretary, you just testified to the American people you’re incompetent at your job,” an enraged Cruz said.
“I’ve been to the southern border. And if you go to the southern border, along the southern border, you see thousands of these wristbands because the illegal immigrants wear them. The drug cartels – every color corresponds to how many thousands of dollars they owe the cartels. You have turned these cartels into multibillion-dollar criminal organizations,” the senator explained.
Some House Republicans have also called for the DHS chief to be impeached over the border crisis.
Nashville Police Highlight Failures in Uvalde
From David Harsanyi at The Federalist:
Their courage is also a reminder that if Uvalde cops responding to the Robb Elementary school mass shooting last year had shown any urgency or a modicum of bravery, rather than sitting around a parking lot and hallway debating what to do, they likely would have prevented the murders of many, if not all, of the 19 children and two teachers at the school. Recall that one of the officers had a rifle aimed at the shooter before he entered the school but didn’t take the shot because he was awaiting his boss’ permission.
I bring this up because the Uvalde police department is still floating rickety justifications for its cowardice and ineptitude. Last week, Texas Tribune ran a preposterous piece, making the case that cops had been “cowed by the Uvalde shooter’s military-style rifle.” Why, that’s politically convenient, isn’t it? A semi-automatic AR-15, according to the Tribune, drove the decision to wait for Border Patrol SWAT teams to engage the shooter. Not only did the Uvalde officers have a number of their own “assault rifles” and the training to go along with them, but they also possessed shields and other tools to help them. As far as we can tell, some of the Nashville police stormed the school with handguns.
