Man in Boulder Terror Attack Targeting Pro-Israel Rally Planned for Over a Year

Fox News reported an Egyptian national, who entered the U.S. in 2022 and overstayed his U.S. visa, was charged in a suspected terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado. He allegedly set fire to participants of a peaceful walk organized by Run for Their Lives, a group advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. The victims, aged 52 to 88, were targeted while the alleged terrorist shouted anti-Israel slogans. He faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, and is held on a $10 million bond.

Hot Air reported that the Justice Department’s statement of criminal charges said, “Throughout the interview, SOLIMAN stated that he hated the Zionist group and did this because he hated this group and needed to stop them from taking over “our land,” which he explained to be Palestine. He stated that he had been planning the attack for a year and was waiting until after his daughter graduated to conduct the attack.”

Authorities, including the FBI and Colorado officials, are treating the incident as ideologically motivated violence and a possible hate crime. More from Fox News:

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the attack is being investigated as an act of "ideologically motivated violence," based on early information, evidence and witness accounts.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard confirmed the National Counterterrorism Center is working with the FBI and local law enforcement on the ground.

Later Sunday, FBI Denver said agents were at a location in El Paso County, Colorado conducting "court-authorized law enforcement activity."

Officials nationwide have increased security around religious sites in response, as concerns grow about antisemitism and anti-Israel violence in the U.S.

The Independent reported:

The Boulder Jewish Community issued a joint statement in the wake of the incident. "We are saddened and heartbroken to learn that an incendiary device was thrown at walkers at the Run for Their Lives walk on Pearl Street as they were raising awareness for the hostages still held in Gaza. We don't have all the details of what is unfolding, and we promise to keep our community informed,” the statement read.

The statement continued: “When events like this enter our own community, we are shaken. Our hope is that we come together for one another. Strength to you all.”
