Libertarian Elvis Arrives in the U.S.
Argentina's President-elect Javier Milei posted on X, “Heading to the United States. Long live freedom, dammit!”
Can we keep him?
AFP reported that he is visiting the U.S. for two days to meet with officials. He will discuss his economic plan, emphasizing fiscal adjustment, monetary reform, state reform, and deregulation. More importantly to U.S. libertarians (and some conservatives) is that the trip is not for seeking financial aid. Milei will meet with U.S. officials, including Juan Gonzalez of the National Security Council, as well as Treasury Department, IMF and World Bank representatives. Milei is set to assume the presidency on December 10.
The AP reported, “National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Monday that Milei will meet with White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan and other administration officials. Biden, who will be traveling on Tuesday to Georgia for a memorial service for former first lady Rosalynn Carter and then to Colorado, will not meet with Milei.”
(It should be noted that Reason.com’s Nick Gillespie is the original libertarian Elvis.)
