BRIGHT fell asleep in the Biden Administration and woke up in the Trump Administration. Best news coma ever!

Just the News reported that President Trump and congressional Republicans are negotiating a tax package projected to cost between $5 trillion and $11.2 trillion over the next decade, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB). In taxpayer speak, that means save us $5 to $11.2 trillion. The package includes extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act ($3.9–$4.8 trillion), eliminating taxes on tips ($100–$550 billion), and exempting Social Security benefits from taxes ($550 billion–$1.5 trillion). Without significant spending cuts, the CRFB says the national debt could reach 132–149% of GDP by 2035. I’m game — bring on the cuts!

House Republicans are debating the spending cuts, with Speaker Mike Johnson proposing $700 billion. Additionally, the House GOP is considering combining tax changes with border security funding.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk, leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE!), is continuing to investigate government waste, particularly at USAID.

More from Just the News:

Trump said at a news conference at the White House on Friday that Musk and DOGE are going to find ways that the U.S. government can save money at the U.S. Department of Education as well as the Defense Department.

“Pentagon, Education, just about everything. We’re going to go through everything,” Trump said at a joint press conference at the White House with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

Trump described the situation at USAID as "very unfortunate" and said most of the employees there have been dismissed.

“It was so bad, with what we just went through — with this horrible situation we just went through, and I guess 97% of the people have been dismissed,” Trump said.

In his Super Bowl interview with Bret Baier, President Trump reiterated his faith in Elon when asked if he trusts him. From Fox News:

"I'm going to tell him very soon… to go check the Department of Education. He's going to find the same thing. Then I'm going to go into the military. Let's check the military. We're going to find billions, hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud and abuse, and the people elected me on that."
…
"The people want me to find it [the wasteful spending]," Trump told Baier.

"And I've had great help with Elon Musk, who's been terrific."

In the past, Democrats have debated tax cuts with scary talking points about what programs will lose funding. As DOGE exposes the outrageous ways our money has been spent, Democrats lose the upper hand. DC-based taxpayer watchdog groups have done this for decades, but DOGE is really getting under the Democrats’ and media’s skin. That tells me they’re nervous.
