Hunter Biden Expected to Be Indicted
Fox News reported that Hunter Biden is expected to be indicted on a federal gun charge by the end of September after a plea agreement collapsed in July. The charge stems from his purchase of a firearm in 2018 and subsequent incident involving the gun. U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika had declined to accept the original plea agreement.
From Fox News:
Noreika had set Wednesday as a deadline to hear from both sides about how to move forward on the diversion agreement that would have allowed Hunter Biden to avoid jail time for a felony charge of lying on a federal form when purchasing a firearm in 2018.
The expected charges come after an original plea agreement collapsed in July. Hunter Biden was expected to plead guilty in July to two misdemeanor tax counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax as part of a plea deal to avoid jail time on a felony gun charge.
More from Just the News:
"The Speedy Trial Act requires that the Government obtain the return of an indictment by a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, at the earliest. The Government intends to seek the return of an indictment in this case before that date," prosecutors wrote in a filing NBC News obtained.
Weiss pursued a five-year investigation into the younger Biden in his capacity as the U.S. Attorney for Delaware. The investigation faced accusations of political interference from a pair of IRS agents working on the case.
Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley and Special Agent Joseph Ziegler have claimed that Biden-appointed officials interfered to prevent the bringing of the more severe charges against Hunter Biden. Moreover, they have claimed that Weiss sought special counsel status from Attorney General Merrick Garland to permit him to bring charges outside of his jurisdiction but was denied.
