Harris Adopts Trump Idea to Fix Biden Administration Policy
At a rally in Las Vegas, Vice President Kamala Harris expressed support for ending federal taxes on tipping, a policy first championed by former President Trump. The Hill reported that this proposal, aimed at appealing to service workers, would exempt tip income from federal income and payroll taxes. Harris pledged to pursue this initiative if elected president. Apparently, there has been no time for the last 3+ years. Senator JD Vance said, “Given that she runs the government why doesn't she do it now?”
The idea, one of Trump’s well-publicized campaign promises, would require congressional approval. Trump accused Harris of copying his proposal, questioning her commitment to implementing it.
More from BizPac Review:
However, as [Fox Business Network host Elizabeth MacDonald noted, the IRS initiated a new program last year that allows tips to be monitored through an employer’s point-of-sale system.
“Kamala Harris’s first big policy idea is to steal Trump’s ‘no taxes on tips,’ when she backed Democrats’ $80b for more IRS audits including on tip income,” MacDonald posted on X. “The Biden-Harris Admin also launched a novel new IRS crackdown on tips, getting the IRS inside the door at bars & restaurants to directly monitor tips at the cash register, ‘at point-of-sale.’ She also backed the $1.7T spending legislation expecting taxpayers to report their $600 phone app transactions to the IRS without she and the Senate reading the bill (later dropped as untenable).”
Many are calling “CopycatKamala.” My fear is that some independent voters may think of this as Trump policies (even if we know they’ll never come to fruition with Kamala) without Trump drama. Am I overthinking it? What do you think, BRIGHT readers?
