In ongoing live coverage, Fox News reported President Trump’s new “Project Freedom” initiative to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz is escalating tensions with Iran.
U.S. Central Command said early efforts are succeeding, noting that “2 U.S.-flagged merchant vessels have successfully transited through the Strait of Hormuz and are safely headed on their journey.” The military also emphasized its buildup, stating support includes “guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land and sea-based aircraft… and 15,000 service members.”
Trump said the mission is protecting global shipping, saying countries had asked the U.S. “if we could help free up their Ships… They are merely neutral and innocent bystanders!” He also issued a warning, saying Iran would be “blown off the face of the Earth” if it attacks U.S. forces.
Meanwhile, clashes have already occurred, with U.S. forces destroying Iranian boats (which Iran disputes) and Iran threatening retaliation.
