Former FBI on Travel in Mexico: If You’re on a Highway, You’re Vulnerable
Following the abduction of four and murder of two in Mexico this week, people should be fully aware that travel to Mexico is not safe. A former FBI official told The Daily Mail, “While you’re on the highway, you’re vulnerable. Now, in this case, it sounds like the cartels had set up a checkpoint, basically like a tollgate, that you had to go through them.” The four were apparently mistaken for a rival cartel, but crime against known tourists isn’t uncommon. More from the Daily Mail:
Nayyera Haq, a former national security adviser, added: 'The majority of Mexico is actually in the control of cartels. The government does not control all the territory there.
'In fact, the government of Mexico for decades has been complicit in ceding control. It is wonderful to travel overseas. It is not the same as traveling in the United States, no matter what the bargain, or what the deal is that you can get.
'You have to understand what life is like for people in the country.'
Retired FBI Special Agent Richard Kolko warned US tourists against driving into Mexico, and advised dressing inconspicuously once they are there.
'Do not drive across the border if you want to go to Mexico. Certainly go to Mexico, but be careful. Fly in. Go to the tourist areas. That's where you're going to be the safest. Carry that cell phone.
'Let people know where you are. Don't wear jewelry. Don't flash cash.
Better yet, explore the U.S. and spend your cash here 😬

DeSantis Strikes Down Bill for ‘Blogger Registration’
Florida State Senator Jason Brodeur introduced a bill in Florida that was soon met with consternation — that anyone paid for blogging register with the state of Florida. There were early reports that Governor Ron DeSantis supported the bill, which have proven to be untrue. In a press conference following his 2023 State of the State speech on Tuesday, Gov. DeSantis said, “Every person in the legislature can file bills. I see these people filing bills and there are these articles with my face on the article, ‘bloggers are going to have to register with the state,’ attributing it to me. That’s not anything I’ve ever supported, I don’t support. I’ve been very clear on what we are doing.”
