Everything You Need to Know About Trump-Putin Meeting

At their August 15 summit in Anchorage, President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed prospects for ending the Ukraine war but reached no breakthrough. The Epoch Times reported the nearly three-hour meeting, attended by top diplomats from both nations, ended with Trump declaring, “There’s no deal until there’s a deal. He added, “We didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there.”

He also noted only “a very few” unresolved issues remain. Putin emphasized Russia’s demand for security guarantees, saying Moscow must “eliminate all the primary roots” of the conflict, including Ukraine’s potential NATO membership. Despite the lack of concrete agreements, Trump promised to brief Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO allies, stressing that Kyiv will determine the next steps.

Putin said he sought to frame the meeting as a chance to restore “business-like and pragmatic relations” with Washington, even as he admitted U.S.–Russia ties remain at a post–Cold War low. European officials welcomed Trump’s diplomacy but warned against Putin’s familiar “propaganda gibberish” about the war’s causes.

Additionally, the New York Post reported:

“They’re going to set up a meeting now between President Zelensky and President Putin . . . and myself, I guess,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity, pausing momentarily before suggesting he would take part in the future talks.

“Not that I want to be there, but I want to make sure it gets done — and we have a pretty good chance of getting it done,” the president added, referring to a cease-fire, in his first interview since his high-stakes sit-down with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska.

Asked by the Fox News host what advice he would give to Zelensky following the Alaska summit, Trump responded: “Make a deal.”
