DeSantis to Announce 2024 Candidacy on Twitter Spaces
It’s never been a will he or won’t he, but a when will he. NBC News reported that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to announce his candidacy for president with Twitter CEO Elon Musk. Sources say they will host an event today at 6 pm. EST on Twitter Spaces, followed by the release of a launch video. NBC News posits that Musk's participation is seen as a sign of support for DeSantis. Aligning with Musk's announcement gives DeSantis an introduction to his massive following, but it also comes with the risk of being overshadowed by Musk.
More from NBC News:
During the Wall Street Journal’s 2023 CEO Summit Council on Tuesday, Musk confirmed his participation in DeSantis' announcement but said he was not going to be formally endorsing DeSantis at that time.
“I think it’s quite groundbreaking that there be a major announcement of this type on social media,” he said, adding that he was “not going to endorse any particular candidate” for president quite yet.
A source said, however, that within DeSantis’ team, Musk's participation is viewed as a clear sign of support for the governor.
Yet Musk is nothing if not unpredictable, and on Friday, he tweetedpraise of an ad by Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., one of DeSantis’ rivals for the GOP nomination.
A Trump adviser told NBC News, “Announcing on Twitter is perfect for Ron DeSantis. This way he doesn’t have to interact with people and the media can’t ask him any questions.”
Will Trump choose this time to make his return to Twitter? 🤔

No Debt Ceiling Deal
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) informed Republican lawmakers that there is no agreement yet between his team and the White House regarding the debt ceiling, increasing pressure on President Joe Biden with just nine days left before the default deadline. The Washington Examiner reported that McCarthy reiterated his stance that he would not raise the debt ceiling without conditions. Republican negotiators expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the talks, while some Republicans questioned Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's warnings of a potential default. The White House proposed limiting next year's spending to 2023 levels, a proposal rejected by Republicans. Further negotiations are scheduled… again.
