DeSantis Says State Will Investigate Trump Assassination Attempt
The Hill reported that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the state will conduct its own investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Trump at his West Palm Beach golf club. Governor DeSantis said on X, “The State of Florida will be conducting its own investigation regarding the attempted assassination at Trump International Golf Club. The people deserve the truth about the would be assassin and how he was able to get within 500 yards of the former president and current GOP nominee.”

Even if the DoJ pulls rank and tries to shine Florida on, DeSantis' announcement and investigation will keep pressure on Merrick Garland and Christopher Wray. DeSantis can force the two of them to respond by speaking out about what his investigators can find on their own, and that will force the media to cover the story. When was the last time we got an update on [July Trump shooter Thomas Matthew] Crooks and his background, communications, and potential connections to others?
Over the last two days, we’ve learned the gunman has a criminal history and ties to North Carolina and Hawaii. His social media suggests an obsession with the Ukraine war.
A House task force has demanded a briefing on the latest incident, and questions about political violence and security continue to grow. After Democrats and many in the media spent the last 24 hours talking about Trump toning down his rhetoric (“his skirt was too short!”), the campaign posted dozens of examples of Democrats’ violent rhetoric against him. Among them:
Kamala Harris: "It's on us to recognize the threat [Trump] poses."
Joe Biden: "It's time to put Trump in a bullseye."
Tim Walz: "Are [Republicans] a threat to democracy? Yes. ... Are they going to put peoples' lives in danger? Yes."
Rep. Maxine Waters: "Are [Trump supporters] preparing a civil war against us?"
Rep. Adam Schiff: Trump is the "gravest threat to our democracy."
Rep. Stacey Plaskett: Trump "needs to be shot."
Rep. Gabe Vasquez: "Remove the national threat from office."
Rick Wilson, The Lincoln Project: "They're still going to have to go out and put a bullet in Donald Trump."
