Dems in Disarray
As the former director of CPAC, I get some satisfaction as the Republicans ooze unity at their convention while seeing the disarray narrative falling squarely on the Democrats. They’re usually the first to put it on Republicans because we allow ourselves to regularly and loudly disagree with one another. Now it’s their turn.
Yesterday, CNN analyst John King acknowledged that former President Donald Trump is poised for a historic landslide win in the upcoming election, potentially securing 330 electoral votes, well above the 270 needed. The Daily Fetched reported King noted that key states such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia, which were previously Democratic strongholds, are now leaning Republican. King said that Biden is in a precarious position with limited paths to victory, while Trump has multiple viable routes. The current electoral map heavily favors Trump, suggesting significant challenges for Biden to change the dynamics within the remaining 16 weeks before Election Day.
As such, more Democrats are throwing their support behind Candidate B: Anyone but Biden. Oh, and anybody but Harris.
From Politico:
The topline findings from interviews with over 15,000 voters in seven battleground states:
“Alternative Democratic candidates run ahead of President Biden by an average of three points across the battleground states. Nearly every tested Democrat performs better than the President. This includes Vice President [KAMALA] HARRIS who runs better than the President (but behind the average alternative).”
“Some of the gains are coming from winning undecideds and those previously supporting a third party. However, alternative candidates are also pulling votes from Donald Trump. All candidates continue to hold the Democratic base.”
“Voters are looking for a fresh face. Those more closely tied to the current administration perform relatively worse than other tested candidates.”
The data here opens a new front in the fight to replace Biden, strongly arguing that the best chance to defeat Trump is with a new Democratic nominee independent of the incumbent administration.
In other words: not Kamala Harris.
