Dem Analyst Warns of ‘Political Suicide’ If They Continue Defending USAID

Ed Morrissey of Hot Air wrote that Democratic analyst Ruy Teixeira warns Democrats that defending USAID is “political suicide.” They claim USAID provided humanitarian aid, but it also represents unaccountable bureaucracy and unpopular foreign spending. Teixeira argues in an op-ed that Democrats are backing an obscure institution that voters distrust, without explaining their priorities.

Thanks to DOGE, we know that USAID has been a slush fund for progressive elites, with little oversight. Even David Axelrod noted, “Democrats have become—in the minds of a lot of voters—an elite party, and to a lot of folks who are trying to scuffle out there and get along, this will seem like an elite passion.”

Morrissey says Trump’s move to cut its budget aligns with public skepticism toward bureaucratic spending. He concludes:

Trump's actions now leverage that overwhelming executive authority to dismantle at least some of the bureaucratic state, starting with the least popular outposts of the United Bureaucracies of America. Democrats won't address foreign-aid priorities because they're not defending foreign aid; they are defending the bureaucratic state. And voters will punish them more and more as they interfere with the process of dismantling it, no matter how many sob stories Democrats and their allies in the Protection Racket Media spin to stop it.
