Can Republicans Take Back the Senate?
In the final stretch of the 2024 elections, RedState reported that Republicans are positioned to flip at least two Senate seats to regain the majority. Montana and West Virginia are highly likely wins for the GOP, with Tim Sheehy and Jim Justice leading their races. Additionally, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan are becoming more competitive. Republican nominee Bernie Moreno’s campaign in Ohio has gained traction, narrowing the gap with Democrat Sherrod Brown.
Jennifer Oliver O’Connell at RedState wrote:
Democrat incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown still leads his Republican challenger, businessman Bernie Moreno, in the polls, but financial assistance from outside PACs, as well as Moreno's successful exposing of Brown's comfortable relationship with China, is creating enough erosion that could change this race to lean Republican. The fact that VP candidate and OH Sen. JD Vance has supported him, and their messages about fighting for the working man align, has also been in Moreno's favor. Ohio bounces between light purple and red, but the state will likely be won by Donald Trump in November, to Moreno's advantage.
In Wisconsin, Eric Hovde is challenging Tammy Baldwin in a close race, while Michigan’s Mike Rogers is running a tough campaign against Elissa Slotkin. O’Connell concluded that Republicans could potentially gain up to five seats.
