BRIGHT Readers Funding the LA Riots!

How’s that for click bait? It’s true though. A recent investigation by Data Republican reveals that CHIRLA, a nonprofit leading immigration-related protests in Los Angeles, receives significant taxpayer funding—$34 million in 2023, mostly from California agencies. Red State reported this funding indirectly supports riots and interference with federal immigration enforcement, including recent ICE operations disrupted by protestors. LA Mayor Karen Bass publicly backed CHIRLA and previously helped secure federal funds for the group. The group’s programs include political advocacy, student organizing, and legal aid for undocumented immigrants, raising concerns over taxpayer-backed political activism.

Jennifer Van Laar of Red State added:

Basically, our taxpayer dollars are going to train high school and college students in how to break immigration law and become Marxist agitators, to ensure illegal aliens are counted in the U.S. Census, to organize illegal aliens already in the country, and to fund their legal representation against deportation.

And that's just in their leadership development section. They also have a filmmaking section, an affiliate organization in Mexico, the CHIRLA Action Fund (through which they can endorse political candidates), and more.

Additionally, Act Blue has also been implicated in organizing the LA riots. Just the News reported:

CHIRLA is nonetheless listed in ActBlue's official directory, and ActBlue facilitates donations to CHIRLA. The far-left, pro-immigrant charity's latest IRS 990 filing for 2023 shows that CHIRLA had revenue of close to $45 million, and expenses of just over $20 million. Their tax filing does not disclose donors' names, nor any specific amount that ActBlue channeled to CHIRLA.
…
According to InfluenceWatch.com, divisions of ActBlue have facilitated donations to the Center for American Progress Action Fund, The Democratic Socialists of America, and MoveOn.org, as well as operated as a fundraising platform for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.

The House Judiciary Committee, the Committee on House Administration and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform are currently investigating ActBlue. The lawmakers issued an interim report in April titled "Fraud on ActBlue: How the Democrats’ Top Fundraising Platform Opens the Door for Illegal Election Contributions."
