Biden Campaign’s Damage Control Causes More Damage

On Friday, ABC aired an interview by former Clinton operative George Stephanopoulos with President Biden. It was supposed to showcase his ability to continue his reelection campaign despite debate fumbles. As expected, it didn’t inspire confidence for Democrats.

ABC host George Stephanopoulos asked, “You say you were exhausted, and I know you’ve said that before as well. But you came — and you did have a tough month, but you came home from Europe about eleven or twelve days before the debate, spent six days in Camp David. Why wasn’t that enough rest time, enough recovery time?”

Biden answered, “Because I was sick, I was feeling terrible. Matter of fact, the docs with me, I asked if they did a COVID test, because they were trying to figure out what was wrong. They did a test to see whether or not I had some infection, a virus. I didn’t. He just said I had a really bad cold.”

Stephanopoulos then asked, “And did you ever watch the debate afterwards?”

Biden responded, “I don’t think I did, no.”

Karen Townsend of Hot Air wrote:

Biden is not going to "stand down", as George asked. Only if God intervenes, he said. The days going forward will be interesting as more and more Democrats are falling away from him.

The fact that ABC News moved the interview up to primetime Friday night instead of running it during George's Sunday show speaks volumes. Team Biden is in full CYA mode. It couldn't wait until Sunday. 

The next debate is scheduled to be hosted by ABC News on September 10 at 9 p.m. ET. Moderators have not been announced yet, but former President Trump challenged President Biden to a “no holds barred” event with no moderators. Now that’s just cruel!
