Bessent: Nearly 70 Countries Ready to Negotiate on Tariffs
The Daily Wire reported that nearly 70 countries have contacted the U.S. to negotiate trade deals following President Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
“I can tell you that there are 50, 60, maybe almost 70 countries now who have approached us,” Bessent said on Fox Business. He said they were likely to be prolonged discussions, noting, “It’s going to be a busy April, May, maybe into June.” The tariffs impose a 10% baseline, with higher rates for some nations, targeting decades-long trade deficits and “non-tariff cheating.”
